Scholars will produce a mini-portfolio consisting of the assignments they completed during this topic. These mini-portfolios will be due on Friday, 4.09.10.

Monday: Assignment due- Studying Workplace Behavior/Attitudes. Workplace Ethics: Case Studies.
Tuesday: Assignment due- Conducting a Business Interview Questions & Answers. Conflict Resolution
Wednesday: Assignment due- Understanding Safety Practices Questions & Answers.
Thursday: Assignments due – Preventing accidents in the workplace – Keeping safety first vocab –Protective devices & procedures
Friday: Introduction to group project, Safety In the Workplace slide show presentation.
Each two member team will collaborate on a 12/20 slide presentation on a subject relating to workplace safety. Rubrics have been given to each team, instruction has been given today during class, questions have been asked and answers have been given regarding the project. Each team must check with me to make sure their subject is appropriate. A due date has not been assigned to this project yet. Today, scholars took time collaborating, researching possible subject matter, and dividing duties among themselves. Layouts should be started and Internet sources should already be discovered for next week's classes.
Weekend: IF ANY OF THE ABOVE ASSIGNMENTS ARE INCOMPLETE, YOU HAVE WEEKEND HOMEWORK. Do not consider Friday's work in this equation.
Week Starting 3.01.10 Assignments
Monday: Scholars are working in teams to finish their digital presentation on "Workplace Safety." These will be presented to me, in class, on Wednesday & Thursday of this week.
Tuesday: Scholars should be well into their projects by the end of class today. Only the bibliography and a few slides should be left to complete. Those who are finished should review the rubric and make sure their presentation meets all the requirements. Review your presentation for errors.
Wednesday: Scholars have almost finished their projects. Many he finished and have had the opportunity for me to critique their presentation. Those who have taken advantage of this have strengthened their chances to score much higher on the project. Ask your scholar if they took advantage of this important opportunity.
Thursday: Your Scholar presented their projects today. We had some teams score PERFECT earning 120/120 points! Ask your scholar how they scored on their own project when they get home today.
Friday: Today your scholar converted their digital presentations into word documents for their Success In The Workplace booklet which is due towards the end of next week. Definite due date will be posted Monday. Scholars had the opportunity to ask me questions regarding their booklet projects. They also had the opportunity to work ahead. Each team was given a rubric and a guideline for the project last week.
Weekend: If you have not completed any of the above listed projects or assignments; you have homework this weekend!
Week Starting 3.08.10 Assignments
Monday: "Preparing a guide for success in the job market." Scholars were given a guide to follow in order to successfully complete their booklets. Mrs. Wood spent the entire class answering questions and helping scholars to prepare and organize their projects. Each individual will give a 5 minute presentation in front of the class. This presentation will cover a specific topic within their booklet. Here are the 5 subjects they must cover in their booklet: Ethics - Teamwork - Safety/Workplace Rules - Conflict Resolution - Workplace Rules. Tentative due date: 3/18/10.

Thursday: Scholars continue to work in teams preparing their booklets. Any questions our concerns teams may have can be addressed at this time. I will review any sections of the project already completed and critique any of the presentations for improvements.
Friday: Scholars continue to work on their projects. The due date for the booklet is 3/18 while the individual presentations will be presented in class on 3/24. Each group has been notified during class today of the final due dates. I have given each group the opportunity to sit down with me and go over their booklets and their progress. This is an excellent opportunity for groups to have me critique their work so they can make improvements for their final drafts.
Week Starting 3.15.10 Assignments
Monday: Each group was reminded of their due dates for their booklets and presentations. They were also made aware that the end of the quarter is 3.26.10.
Make sure you ask your budding scholar about their recent project scores. Each team was given a scored rubric. Many of these rubrics had notes on how to improve their projects in the future. The current project is worth 200 points and is the last opportunity for students to raise there grades significantly. Every scholar has an opportunity to tally their quarter grades for their quarter score to date.
Tuesday: Scholars were given the opportunity today to see their current grades and discuss with me what scores they need to attain on the upcoming assignments in order to receive the desired grade for the 3rd quarter.
Wednesday: Your scholars had the opportunity to finish up their projects and have me edit any portion of project before it was tunred in for a grade. When working on a three week project; it amazes me that many wait until the day before to finally get "serious" about their project. Ideally, teams should have their projects done a couple of days before the due date to edit their projects and make any artistic changes. Teams who wait until the last minute to finish their projects; turn in inferior work.
Thursday: Scholars turned in their 200 point projects today. We saw many teams scamble until the last minute to finish their work. Always make sure your scholar finishes a large project such as this one before the day it is due. Mrs. Wood collected those who turned their project in on time. Scholars now have abour 6 class days before their class presentations are due. Scholar refer to Line "E" on your project instructions for details. We have spoken in class about this on numerous occasions. I have worked with each person individually if help was
Friday: This is the last day for scholars to work on their 5 minute presentations in class. It is very important that each individual come to me with their lesson plan and 5 minute itinerary. This will ensure a proper presentation and maximum points obtained. This presentation represents 25% or 50 points of their latest project which was due earlier in the week. Each scholar will give an independent presentation and will be graded independently from their current teammate.
Week Starting 3/22/10
Monday: 12 Careers Project – Each scholar will work independently creating a slide show representing the 12 careers they might be interested in pursuing in the future. They will explore the educational requirements, salary, job outlook, and other information about each career chosen. Each scholar has written down the requirements for each slide. Please ask your young scholar about the specifics of their assignment so you can follow along with their progress. The following web site has been given to them as an important resource for this project. www.bls.gov/oco If they utilize this site, they should have no problem earning an “A” on this project.
DUE DATE - 3/26
Tuesday: Your scholars are preparing for their presentations which are due tomorrow. Every scholar has been reminded on a daily basis about this presentation. In fact, we have spent a at least 6 hours of class time working on this presentations. Scholars should have this presentation finished today so they can make sure there are no technical issues or malfunctions of printers, flash drives, etc. This will give your scholar ample time to rework or fix any problems. If they wait until the last minute to finish their projects, bad things always happen.
Wednesday: Presentations were given today. We observed many excellent presentations and them some not so great presentations. Sadly we had a number of scholars who felt they didn't feel it necessary to present anything at all and took a zero. Please make sure you ask your young scholar if they presented their projects.
Thursday: Today is the final day of the quarter. All grade are in and no late work will be accepted at this point. Grades should be calculated by the middle of next week. Our current project will be the first grade of the upcoming quarter. This project will be due tomorrow. A small amount of class time may be given to finish this assignment.
Friday: You were to finish up your project today. This project had 4-5 days of class time attributed to it. I gave each scholar much more time to complete this than really necessary. Considering you were given the web site to find all the information; scholars should be able to complete this within three class sessions. It is time to keep challenging your scholar. Monday: Scholars finished working on their assignment covering the important factors of comparative shopping. This assignment is worth 20 points.
Tuesday: Scholars were exposed to the importance of creating a working budget in their lives. Each scholar was given a list consisiting of monthly expenses, both fixed and flexible. Their assignment was to rework this budget based upon the planned budget compared to the actual budget. They created a table showing these results. This assignment is worth 20 points.
Wednesday: Scholars continued with creating their budget tables and answered a series of questions relating to the information discovered from their findings. Mini-portfolios are due in 2 days.
Thursday: Scholars took a short quiz which coverd tenant/landlord lease laws and budget terms & philosophies. They also worked on finishing their mini-portfolios which are due tomorrow.
Week Starting 4/12/10 - Spring Break
Week Starting 4/19/10 - Scholars came back to school and started working on a detailed 12-Month calendar project for the entire week worth 120 points. This project should solidify their use of Open Office Writer.
Week Starting 4/26/10 - Scholars are working with spreadsheets using Open Office Calc. This week we studied the online tutorials for Open Office and worked on simple spreadsheet equations. Ask your scholar to show you the simple spreadsheets they created.
Week Starting 5/03/10 - Scholars completed two quizes covering he spreadsheet software and created their final Open Office Calc assignment. Each scholar was required to go on a $1000 shopping spree online and use their spreadsheet knowledge to keep a running total of dollars spent, taxes owed, and money still left in their account. Successful completion of this project demonstrated basic knowledge with using this particular software.
Week Starting 5/10/10 - Last week the scholars were introduced to the GIMP software. Similar to Photo Shop, the software is an image manipulator. Each scholar is responsible for watching the online tutorials via Moodle. Those newer scholars without a moodle account are to use accounts of fellow scholars to watch the tutorials. Newpoint is in the process of creating moodle accounts for our newer scholars. Parents can follow along in Moodle starting with Semester II - Week -1. Currently, scholars are working on Semester II - Week - 2. This assignment will take at least 7 class periods to complete. Everything done in class can be worked on at home if needed. This assignment is worth 100 points.
Week Starting 5/17/10 - This entire week scholars worked on enhancing their GIMP skills using Moodle semester II, week 4. This assignment was due 5/24 and is worth 100 points. This assignment can be accessed from home via Moddle. Final quarter grades are now complete. The last day to turn in any late work is May 26th. Ater this date any work not turned in will recieve a ZERO.
Week Starting 5/24/10- Everything is supposed to be turned in for this course. Nothing else will be graded or accepted. Each scholar is now preparing to work on their final exam project. The final exam project will take the place of an exam for this course. Therefore there WILL NOT BE ANY exam for this course during exam week. Scholars will have 7 class periods to finish this assignment. Due date is 6/03/10, no late projects will be accepted, NO EXCEPTIONS. A handout has been passed out to each scholar giving detalied instructions on their final assignment along with a scoring rubric. Each scholar had an opportunity to ask questions and watch a slideshow a a finished project to gain insight for their own projects.
Week Starting 5/31/10- Scholars have been given the tuesday and wednesday of this week to finish their assignments. They will be graded as they finish. No late projects will be accepted after 6/03/10. If they are not finished on thursday, I will grade what they have completed. Everyone has been given ample time to complete this assignment. Upon completion, scholars will be finished for the 2009-2010 school year in Technology/Business.
