Computer Applications I—The purpose of this course is for students to develop knowledge and skills in the use of computer applications. The content includes the principles, concepts, and processes of Microsoft Office, telecommunications concepts, use of the Internet, and ethical use of computers. (.5 credit)
Workplace Essentials—The purpose of this course is for students to gain the workplace skills essential for gainful employment. The course content includes: developing an employment plan, seeking and applying for employment opportunities, accepting employment, communicating on the job, maintaining professionalism, adapting and coping with change, problem-solving and decision making, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, demonstrating work ethics and behavior, demonstrating technological literacy, maintaining interpersonal relationships, and demonstrating leadership and team work. Executive Internship I—The purpose of this course is for students to experience a practical introduction to the work environment through direct contact with professionals in the community. The content will include developing a professional vocabulary in the applied field of study, discussion of professional job requirements, development of decision making skills, development of professional interest and development of job related skills through a community-based internship and Portfolio project-based learning. (1 credit)
Executive Internship II—The purpose of this course is to expand on the content of Executive Internship I through a community internship and Portfolio project-based learning. Students will study a variety of career options, develop written and oral communication skills, develop higher level thinking skills, develop interpersonal relationships, complete in-depth research study, understand factors affecting job performance, study theories of management, understand economic factors affecting free enterprise, investigate professional organizations and their impact, and pursue career planning. (1 credit)
Executive Internship III—The purpose of this course is to further refine and apply technical skills and competencies for leadership within specific professional areas through a community-based internship and Portfolio project-based learning. Course content will include intensive study of career options, refinement of communication skills, continued development of higher level thinking skills, continued development of interpersonal relationships, deeper understanding of factors affecting job performance, in-depth research studies, continued study of theories of management, study of the influence of unions and economic factors affecting free enterprise, and deeper understanding of professional organizations and their impact. (1 credit)
Executive Internship IV—The purpose of this course is to continue to provide students with an opportunity to apply technical skills and competencies to real-life career processes and settings through a community-based internship and Portfolio project-based learning. Course content will include analysis of career options, career planning processes, characteristics of work settings, theories of executive management, influence of unions, free enterprise concepts, and organizational structures in a professional atmosphere. (1 credit)
Principles of Entrepreneurship—The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the concept of entrepreneurship and to present entrepreneurship as a viable career option. Laboratory activities will include a simulated business or school-based enterprise. (1 credit)
Business Management and Law—The purpose of this course is for students to explore and understand the skills needed to develop and manage a business, as well as the rules, regulations, and ethics involved with managing a business. Laboratory activities will include a simulated business or school-based enterprise. (1 credit)
Business Ownership—The purpose of this course is to provide students with the skills needed to realistically evaluate their potential as an entrepreneur and business owner, as well as develop the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to start and operate a business. Laboratory activities will include a simulated business or school-based enterprise. (1 credit)
Marketing Essentials—The purpose of this course is to develop the competencies essential to marketing. These competencies include human relations, employability, communication, math, and economic skills. The fundamentals of marketing and selling are also emphasized. Course content also includes identifying economic principles, identifying marketing and business fundamentals, and identifying effective selling and techniques and procedures. Laboratory activities will include a simulated business or school-based enterprise. (1 credit)
Marketing Applications—The purpose of this course is to provide students with and in-depth study of marketing in a free enterprise society and provide the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for employment in a wide variety of marketing occupations. Course content will include selecting a marketing industry for career planning, demonstration of applications of distribution, financing, product/service planning, marketing-information management, pricing applications, promotions, purchasing, safety and risk management, and selling. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship and identify the uses of technology in marketing. (1 credit)
Marketing Specialization—The purpose of this course is for students to apply what they have learned in previous marketing courses to the exploration of a specific field of marketing. Laboratory activities will include a simulated business or school-based enterprise. (1 credit)
Technology Studies I—This course provides students with an introduction to the knowledge, human relations, and technological skills found today in technical professions. Laboratory activities will include practical applications of technology within the school or a business-based setting. (1 credit)
Technology Studies II—This course provides students with an intermediate understanding of the knowledge, human relations, and technological skills necessary for a modern technical profession. Laboratory activities will include practical applications of technology within the school or a business-based setting. (1 credit)
Technology Studies III—This course provides students with an advanced understanding of the knowledge, human relations, and technological skills needed for modern technical professions. Laboratory activities will include practical applications of technology within the school or a business-based setting. (1 credit)
Multimedia Foundations I—This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamentals of multimedia. Students learn to plan and create presentations that incorporate scanned images and images created in various formats and mediums. Laboratory applications will include practical applications of multimedia. (1 credit)
Web Design I—This course is designed to provide a basic overview of the Internet, Intranet, and WWW. The content includes operating systems; basic HTML commands; navigation of the Internet and Intranet; and web page design. Laboratory applications will include practical applications of web page design. (1 credit)
Multimedia Foundations II—This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of web page layout and integration of video and animation into web pages. Special emphasis is placed on design and proper usage of typography and images for delivery on the Internet. Laboratory applications will include practical applications of web page design. (1 credit)
Medical Skills and Services—The purpose of this course is to provide students with practical, generic skills in health occupations, which though applicable to some health occupations, are not designed to prepare students for entry into a specific occupations. Laboratory activities and project-based learning will be utilized. (1 credit)
Health Science Directed Study—The purpose of this course is to provide students with additional competencies related to a job preparatory program that will enhance their opportunities for employment in the chosen health occupation. The content is prescribed by the instructor, based on the individual student’s need for directed study. Research, project-based learning, portfolio development will be utilized. Reinforcement of core academic competencies will also be emphasized. Laboratory activities will be utilized. (1 credit, may be repeated for a second credit)
